Maths in Action

At Wheatfields Infants’ and Nursery School, our vision is to provide a Maths curriculum which enables the children to become fluent with numbers to 100 and beyond. We do this through using a variety of different physical resources and manipulatives and visual representations as well as the abstract and by ensuring that new learning builds on the children’s previous understanding in order for them to make links with their prior knowledge.

Our aim is for the children to develop a love of number and be able to use and apply their skills to explain their reasoning at a mastery level.

This year, in order to support the children further in recalling and applying the number facts they learn, we are following the NCETM (National Centre for the Excellence of Teaching Mathematics) Mastering Number programme. Children in Reception, Year One and Year Two will have 4 additional number fluency sessions each week.
